How to make a Complaint

"The legislation relating to complaints about doctors changed on 18 September 2004.  New legislation, the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 (the Act) came into effect on 18 September 2004.  Part 4 of the Act introduces a new Disciplinary Tribunal the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal which supersedes the Medical Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.  The Act provided for the new Tribunal to start on 18 September 2004.

Complaints about a medical practitioner should be made to the Health and Disability Commissioner, PO Box 1791, Auckland, Free phone 0800 11 22 33.

Alternatively a complaint can be made with the Medical Council of New Zealand, PO Box 11 649, Wellington. The Medical Council of New Zealand will promptly forward the complaint on to the Health and Disability Commissioner.
